For people who fantasize about owning a dream home but are daunted by Metro Vancouver’s exorbitant cost of new construction, renovation of their existing property can be the ideal solution – as long as the company undertaking the renovation has the expertise necessary to make even the biggest dreams come true.

That is very much the case with Goldcon Construction, whose latest renovation involved the complete makeover of a 2,500-square-foot North Vancouver residence. Kaveh Goldan, project manager for Goldcon, says: “The owners had been living in the house for 32 years and wanted a high-end showcase home.”

Goldcon Construction embarked upon a renovation of a 2,500-square-foot residence that the owners had been living in for 32 years.

Goldan and his team over the course of a year created an open-concept living and kitchen area, a beautiful entertainment area on the lower floor, a top-floor addition, and a fully landscaped backyard, including a spacious hot tub.

The finishes included high-end custom cabinetry and millwork, stone surround fireplaces, marble tile in the kitchen and bathrooms, Cambrian black leather granite counter-tops, hand-scraped engineered oak hardwood throughout and LED lighting.

The stunning outcome of Goldcon’s efforts, dubbed the ‘Endlessly Elegant’ project, would have easily cost several million dollars had it been a new build, but this particular renovation cost slightly over $800,000.

Engaging a knowledgeable builder is crucial at a time when too many people assume makeovers are simple. Goldan says: “The contractor has to be at the top of his game, because the challenge is to upgrade and fulfill the client’s wishes within an existing footprint.

“The Endlessly Elegant project had good bones, but we still had to carefully determine structural loads and other requirements that would give the dwelling another 32 years or more of life. Some of the point loads had to be changed, roof trusses had to be extended, and a new roof was installed, as well as new siding.”

A beautiful and welcoming entertainment area on the lower floor was part of Goldcon Construction’s award-winning renovation of ‘Endlessly Elegant.’

A knowledgeable builder also has to be nimble. Goldan explains: “It’s a given that the homeowner will request changes to the renovation. You have to be able to accommodate that.”

Although Goldcon was founded in 2013, the company has 25 years of combined staff experience, and Goldan and his partner, who is also his brother, grew up in the construction trade. “We both have an eye for quality and detail, which serves us well,” he says.

Unsurprisingly, Goldcon resists taking on too many projects. “Plus, our jurisdiction is mainly North and West Vancouver, and while this may limit our ability to grow physically, we would much prefer growing our reputation as quality renovators and new builders,” says Goldan.

The Endlessly Elegant project has contributed to Goldan’s wish by winning the 2019 CHBA National Awards For Excellence in the category of Best Kitchen Renovation Over $100,000, and two 2019 Ovation Awards for Best Kitchen Renovation Over $125,000 as well as Best Renovated Room (basement). Additionally, Goldcon was a 2019 CHBA National Awards For Excellence Finalist for Best Whole House Renovation $501,000 – $1 Million and a 2019 Georgie Awards Finalist for Best Residential Renovation $800,000 and over.

Equally importantly, Goldcon has earned glowing client reviews. Nancy Dekanich, owner of the Endlessly Elegant property, says the Goldcon team “helped us through every step of the process…we absolutely love our new home!”
